About the Site
I’m so naive sometimes I have to laugh at myself: occasionally, I am actually surprised to learn that the website of a pro-life or political commentator that I thought was a one-woman or one-man show turns out to have a full staff.
Well, this site isn’t like that. I don’t get “fed” information from National Right to Life–it’s not that they don’t love me or I don’t love them anymore–I still do!– they’re just 1) swamped, 2) short-staffed and 3) I am fiercely independent minded when it comes to my opinion and don’t want people to think that lauraechevarria.com is just an extension of the NRLC press office–although I readily agree with NRLC and it’s philosophy. I will also use research materials from NRLC on a regular basis–and note it–because I trust the source (I know these people and they are top notch at research and everything else!). And I do have friends I call/e-mail for information but I try not to pester them (see reason number 1). I also send them interesting information I find on the web as well.
- I don’t have an intern although I would love one.
- I write at a built-in desk system my dad helped me build in the dining room of my two-floor (translate: tiny) townhouse.
- I don’t have a staff, however, once my daughter is a little older she may get paid pittance to help with the website.
- I don’t have a proofreader–I did that job for NRLC and I teach English so I try to catch most of my mistakes on my own. I am human so I do miss some on occasion.
- I do write an occasional column for LifeNews.com but it’s pro bono.
So, needless to say, like other writers, I am underpaid and overworked but I love writing. I am also very opinionated and strong minded especially with regard to politics–therefore, lauraechevarria.com exists.
